Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorder

Mood and anxiety disorders can occur during pregnancy and the first year postpartum.

Symptoms may include:

  • Persistent sadness

  • Intense worry about the baby

  • Difficulty bonding

  • Sleep disturbance (even when baby sleeps)

  • Irritability or guilt

“Baby blues” are common and short-lived. If symptoms last longer than two weeks or interfere with functioning, treatment is important.

Postpartum psychosis is rare but requires immediate medical attention.
