Panic Disorder
Panic disorder is an anxiety disorder characterized by unexpected, recurring panic attacks and a persistent fear of future episodes.
Common signs:
Sudden, intense surges of overwhelming fear or a sense of "impending doom"
Physical symptoms like heart palpitations, chest pain, or shortness of breath
Trembling, sweating, or feeling detached from reality (depersonalization)
Significant lifestyle changes to avoid places where previous attacks occurred
Constant worry about the health implications of the attacks (e.g., fear of a heart attack)
Panic disorder is treatable with evidence-based therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and, when appropriate, medication.
