Anxiety Disorders

Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Anxiety disorders involve excessive fear, worry, or nervous system activation that interferes with daily life. While occasional anxiety is normal, persistent or overwhelming anxiety may benefit from treatment.

Anxiety can show up as:

  • Racing heart, shortness of breath, nausea

  • Constant worry or overthinking

  • Avoidance of situations

  • Irritability or restlessness

  • Sleep problems

Anxiety disorders often run in families and may relate to brain chemistry, stress, and life experiences. Therapy and medication are highly effective treatments.

Social Anxiety Disorder

Social anxiety is an intense fear of being judged, embarrassed, or rejected in social situations.

Common signs:

  • Fear of meeting new people or speaking publicly

  • Avoiding social events

  • Blushing, shaking, or nausea in social settings

  • Excessive worry about how others perceive you

Social anxiety is treatable with therapy and, when appropriate, medication.
